What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is the only FDA approved injectable that is proven to stimulate the patient’s own collagen; restoring the framework of the face, filling out any hollowness associated with aging and improving the appearance of lines and wrinkles over time. Sculptra is a bio-activator made up of Poly-L-Lactic Acid.
How does Sculptra work?
This liquid injectable is the same type of acid that is produced naturally by the body after strenuous exercise and triggers the steady and gradual stimulation of fibroblast to produce new collagen, thereby reversing the loss of the skin’s fullness. It fills and recontours areas where underlying supportive collagen and fat tissue have diminished with age or have been damaged by injury or disease. Sculptra® is most often used to cheek hollows, smile lines, and depressions around the eyes. It is also used to restore fullness to the hands for a natural, younger appearance.
How many treatments will I need?
The increase of collagen will drastically volumize the face, restore sunken cheeks or temples, and can provide a healthy basis for other fillers to be layered over. The upcycle of collagen following a Sculptra injection will continue for 4-6 months post-treatment. Depending on desired results, multiple vials may be needed across multiple appointments – these decisions and any questions can be discussed with your injection specialist at Pure Lux Medspa during a consultation at the office.
How long will results last?
The results of Sculptra® injections are not immediate. However, the effects of the treatments are enduring and will continue to improve. Skin thickness can increase over the course of several weeks, and may require a second or third treatment to touch up the area. Unlike other absorbable injectables that last only a few months, the benefits of Sculptra® can last up to three years.
Is Sculptra right for you?
All Sculptra injections are non-surgical and tailored to each patient’s needs and desired results. Even if you are a person with darker skin pigment, the FDA considers Sculptra to be a safe and effective way of improving the cosmetic appearance without increasing the risk of hyper-pigmentation, keloid, or hypertrophic scarring.
Individual Sculptra results will vary from patient to patient, so a one-on-one consultation can give you a better understanding of the type of results you can expect following a treatment.
