How Skin Pen works?

What is micro-needling?

Skin Pen is composed of 14 tiny needles that rapidly create micro-injuries to the skin as your aesthetician glides the device across the area of concern. SkinPen® works by creating a series of hundreds of microscopic channels into the dermis to stimulate the skin’s natural production of new collagen and elastin. SkinPen® needles cycle at 100+ stamps/second, potentially creating 1600+ microchannels per second while gliding. Unlike other devices, SkinPen enters the dermis at a precise 90° angle to prevent skin tearing. Sending your skin into natural healing mode, it stimulates its own production of collagen and elastin to repair wrinkles, scaring, and other skin imperfections often associated with the aging process.

Does it hurt?

The needles used are quite small, and the depth of penetration is controlled by automation, but it can be a little uncomfortable. However, a numbing cream is applied before the procedure, which effectively eliminates any discomfort at all. We hate pain just as much as you do! We always book extra time to make sure we have as much time needed to ensure the numbing cream does its job.

I have an event coming up, when should I plan my treatments?

To achieve best skin for your event, we recommend a series of three sessions spaced 6 weeks apart, with your last session done 4 weeks prior to your event.

What about after the treatment?

Your skin will have the appearance of a bad sunburn immediately following the procedure. It generally takes 2-4 days for the redness to fade completely. It's also typical to see a few tiny blood spots in the treatment area. Your aesthetician gives you detailed instructions about aftercare and may recommend various skincare products designed to protect your skin as it heals. It’s advisable to avoid prolonged sun exposure during the healing process since your skin will be more sensitive than usual.

How long will it take to see results?

It takes just a few days to notice significant improvement in your skin’s overall appearance, but your body continues to produce collagen even after the treatment areas appear healed. So, you may continue to notice improvement in your skin tone and texture for as long as six months after the procedure.

Will I need multiple treatments?

Some will see adequate improvement after just one session, but most require 2-3 treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart to achieve optimal results. Your Pure Lux expert will discuss the procedure in detail during your consultation and make recommendations about the number of treatments you may need based on your skincare goals. To compete with the aging process, we recommend 2 treatments a year to continued collagen production.
